Premade folders are the folders that you (admin) create for users in a specific role or all-users on your WordPress website. When you create a premade folder for a role (e.g. subscriber) – all the subscriber users will see this folder in their file manager on the frontend by default. It is like creating a template structure for your users.
There are 2 types of Premade folders that you can create – Shared and Separate. We will discus these in the following sections.
Shared Premade Folders
These are the common folders that other users share among them. A premade folder of type “shared” will be visible under the “Shared with me” section for users. This type of folder behaves like a common folder shared with other users. E.g. if you create a premade folder of Shared type for Subscriber users, then this folder will display for all subscriber users and any file uploaded in this folder will be visible to all the subscriber users.
You will need to select the access level as well – view only, view and upload, and full access. You can learn more about the access levels from our documentation here.
Separate Premade Folders
The separate type Premade folders are unique to each user. When you create a separate premade folder for a role, users from that role will see that premade folder under their my-files section by default like they have created that folder but they can not remove that folder. They will have a view and upload access to that folder. When you create this type of folder, you don’t need to select the access level as it will be view and upload access. Each user can upload files into this folder and those files will not be visible to other users in that role. These folders are unique to each user.
Usecase: Let’s take an example. An admin user created a premade (separate type) folder named “Documents” for the Subscriber role and uploaded a file named “Site Rules and Regulation.pdf”. Now when a subscriber user login to the site, he will see the “Documents” folder under his my-files section. He can view the files uploaded by the admin in this folder and can upload his own files as well but his files will only be visible to himself and admin.
You can change the thumbnail for “premade separate” folders from the customizer tab under the settings to differentiate these folders.
How to Create a Premade Folder?
You can create a premade folder by going to the UPF file manager in the backend panel of your WordPress website. Then click “Premade Folders” in the left sidebar. This will display the existing premade folders in the content area. Click “New Premade Folder” from the “New” button at the top. This will open the popup where you would need to enter the folder title, select a role (or all users), folder type (shared or separate), and access level (if shared folder). Click Create button and this will create the premade folder for that role. See the screenshot for your reference.
Alternatively, you can also select a user role from the left sidebar and then create a premade folder.
